Inspiring Innovation:
OLG's Dynamic STEM Program
At Our Lady of Grace (OLG), we're proud to offer a vibrant STEM program that ignites curiosity, fosters creativity, and cultivates problem-solving skills in our students from kindergarten through eighth grade. Led by two passionate educators, Mrs. Schrom (K-5) and Ms. Gasser (6-8), our STEM curriculum is designed to challenge and inspire young minds.
Elementary STEM with Mrs. Schrom (K-5)
Mrs. Schrom brings engineering to life for our youngest learners. Her innovative approach involves presenting students with whimsical scenarios that require out-of-the-box thinking. With limited materials and time constraints, students dive into engineering challenges that push their creativity to new heights. Mrs. Schrom's favorite mantra, "I can do hard things!" echoes through her classroom, encouraging students to surpass their own expectations and discover their true potential.
Middle School STEM with Ms. Gasser (6-8)
Affectionately known as "Professor Sprout" (a nod to Harry Potter's Herbology teacher), Ms. Gasser infuses mathematics into STEM in the most engaging ways. Her projects often involve "sneaky math" - complex concepts disguised as fun, hands-on activities. A prime example is her classroom redesign project, where students apply mathematical principles to real-world scenarios without even realizing it! Ms. Gasser's hands-on approach extends beyond the classroom. Her gardening expertise and willingness to "get down and dirty" for a good lesson keep students engaged and excited about learning. Moreover, her ability to teach sailboat-making skills have led OLG to shine at the Crespi Regatta, filling our school with Lion Pride!
A Collaborative Approach
Together, Mrs. Schrom and Ms. Gasser have created a seamless STEM experience from kindergarten through eighth grade. Their shared passion for learning and commitment to challenging students in supportive environments ensure that OLG students are well-prepared for the technological demands of the future.
At OLG, our STEM program is more than just science and math - it's about fostering a love for learning, building resilience, and empowering students to tackle complex problems with confidence and creativity. Join us in celebrating the innovation and excitement that STEM brings to our school community!
